News on Waterberg Tourism

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Many exciting things are happening in Vaalwater since Waterberg Tourism was launched five months ago by Mayor Marlene van Staden.

More than four hundred lodges, activities and businesses have added their details to the data base.  “We are hoping that number will increase to more than one thousand” says John Bufton of PC Doctor who developed this sophisticated product.

Our social media offerings have bee done by another local, Antoinette Swanevelder of Unique Designs, and have so far attracted more than 400,000 hits!  “With more than 40% coming from offshore it shows that there is a very definite interest in the Waterberg” says Swanevelder.

An Information Kiosk has been opened at the Zeederberg Centre and is handling more than 200 enquiries a month.  In addition, the organisation has planted more than 80 trees in the town and facilitated more than sixteen training courses, helping the hospitality industry to train their staff to handle the influx of tourists expected.

Four new businesses have been started providing employment where there was none previously.  A community member, Nic Callichy, offered the help of his company when it was decided to clean up a public park that had become overgrown and unsightly.  “The exciting thing” says Dalene Vermaak “is how the community has come together to embrace this concept from the ground upwards.”

Waterberg Tourism is run by the community for the entire community.  It is a non-profit company and has PBO status that means that any bona fide donations to this worthy cause are tax deductible.
