Tintswalo Lapalala

Tintswalo Lapalala is located in the 44,500 hectare, malaria-free Lapalala Wilderness Reserve in the greater Waterberg area. The eco-friendly tented camp is completely off the grid, and solely run by solar power and generators. Guests enjoy all the modern comforts of a luxury lodge whilst still experiencing the true beauty of the bush. As there are only two commercial lodges on the reserve, vehicle density is very low, making it one of the most private and undisturbed safari experiences within the region.

Enjoying a sheltered location, the Lapalala Wilderness offers sanctuary to herds of buffalo, black and white rhino, sable and roan antelope that are all bred on the reserve. Twenty-seven kilometres of pristine river meander through the reserve, providing opportunities to enjoy the peaceful magnificence of water-rich scenery, teeming with bird life. Water-based wilderness activities include riverside picnics, sunset cruises and fishing, or swimming in rapids and crystal-clear rock pools.

Daily game drives and guided bush walks are on offer, along with excursions to ancient iron age and rock art sites within the reserve, as well as visits to the Wildlife Breeding programmes and the community-based Wilderness School. Bordered by other private game sanctuaries, the sheer expanse of this unspoiled biosphere area results in no light pollution and dramatic stargazing on cloudless nights.

Tintswalo Lapalala is a family-friendly camp, offering seven luxury tented suites with private plunge pools, including two 2-bedroom family suites, all with views overlooking the rolling mountains and plains of the malaria-free Waterberg region. Tintswalo Lapalala is an untouched bushveld paradise in the heart of Africa, accommodating up to 16 adults and 4 children.

The Lapalala Wilderness Reserve was founded in 1981 by conservation leaders, Dale Parker and Clive Walker, just 3.5 hours’ drive from Johannesburg. The Tintswalo Lapalala Wilderness establishment continues this legacy of nature preservation by remaining environmentally conscious and completely off the grid.

Tintswalo Lapalala forms part of the Tintswalo Lodges portfolio, a luxurious collection of four- and five- star accommodations for those seeking authentic African adventures, while still appreciating the ethos, quality and service that each of Tintswalo’s perfectly located flagship destinations have become known for.
